Anticipated Animes This Fall 2014
Summer’s about to end and autumn is just around the corner. In Japan, that means yellow-reddish scenery, company trips, and new seasons and titles of anime. Charapedia, a Japanese site for character database and manga/anime stuff, recently asked around 10,000 anime fans all over Japan on what anime they are looking forward this fall and here are the results:

1. Psycho-Pass 2 – 2,015 votes
Genre: action, psychological, science fiction, thriller
Plot Summary: Set in the year 2113, a person’s state of mind and personality is now measurable, quantifiable, and recordable. The individual’s being is measured through a standard known as “Psycho-pass”. Psycho-pass 2 is the sequel to the 2012 anime of the same title and focuses on two police officers as they are tasked to manage crimes in such a world.
2. Fate/Stay Night – 1,583 votes
Genre: action, drama, supernatural
Plot Summary: Following the Unlimited Blade Works route of the visual novel of the same title, the new anime’s theme focuses on “struggling with oneself as an ideal”.
3. Yowamushi Pedal: Grande Road- 1,277 votes
Genre: sports, comedy
Plot Summary: Sakamichi Onoda, an otaku, loves anime and games so much that he would ride his Mamachari (aka city bike, mommy bike) to and from Akihabara shopping district in a 90km round trip. His life changes when he ends up joining the competitive sport of bicycle racing.
4. The Seven Deadly Sins (Nanatsu no Taizai) – 971 votes
Genre: adventure, fantasy
Plot Summary: The Seven Deadly Sins, once a powerful active group of knights, was disbanded after accusations that they plotted against the kingdom. It was known that they were defeated by the Holy Knights. Years later, the supposed heroes, the Holy Knights, staged a coup d’état and capture the king. The third princess, Elizabeth, then starts her journey in finding the Seven Deadly Sins and enlist them in order to take back the kingdom.
5. Girl Friend BETA – 933 votes
Plot Summary: Girl Friend BETA is based on the 2012 Japanese smartphone game of the same name with over 5 million players. The game features over one hundred girls for the players to choose for a date and each girl is voiced by a different voice actress. It is developed by CyberAgent and published by Ameba.
6. Log Horizon Second Season – 929 votes
Genre: adventure, fantasy
Plot Summary: 30,000 Japanese gamers are trapped inside the fantasy online game Elder Tale. The fantasy world now becomes the real world. Shiroe, Naotsugu, Akatsuki and their friend teamed up to survive, uncover the secrets of Elder Tale, and return to the “real” world.
7. Wolf Girl & Black Prince – 764 votes
Genre: comedy, romance
Plot Summary: Erika Shinohara talks about her romantic exploits but actually has no boyfriend. She asks Kyouya Sata to make him her fake boyfriend. Sata, secretly a sadist, takes advantage of Erika and treats her like his dog.
8. Terra Formars – 719 votes
Genre: science fiction
Plot Summary: The year is 2577, hundreds of years later after scientists sent cockroaches and mold to terraform (make it habitable like Earth) Mars, humans send manned ships to Mars to check the situation. Unknown to them, the cockroaches evolved into large humanoid cockroaches with great strength and were able to wipe out the first expedition. Humanity then sends elite warriors to combat the cockroaches.
9. Selector Spread Wixoss – 653 votes
Genre: dark fantasy, psychological
Plot Summary: Another anime about trading card games, Selector Spread Wixoss (pronounced as wi-cross), follows the story of Ruko Kominato, who has been chosen as a “selector”. Due to that, she has the chance to have her any wish come true once she becomes victorious in a battle against other selectors.
10. World Trigger – 648 votes
Genre: action, science fiction
Plot Summary: A gate to another dimension has been opened, gigantic creatures that are invincible to Earth weapons emerge and threaten all of humanity. A mysterious group of warriors who have co-opted the alien technology is Earth’s only defense.
